Adjectives: Fun, Clever, Playful, Artistic, Colorful, Dramatic, Open, Real, and Loving.

Happy Valentines Day!   Just in time for the most romantic holiday of the year, I have photos from a great engagement session to share with you!  Cindy and Sam were so wonderful to work with, and we captured some amazing images.   Their session started at the Downtown Seattle Library.   I was thrilled, because I always thought it was an ideal location for an engagement session.  The architecture, the colors, the light, and the amazing clients made this such a fun and creative session.  We captured a few images at Gas Works Park after the Library, providing a wide variety of images.

I wish you all a very Romantic Valentines Day (I know I’m planning one for me and my lady)!

ASHLEY AND JOHN | ENGAGEMENT SESSION | SNOQUALMIE PASS, WA

Adjectives: Fun, Snowy, Playful, Happy, Beautiful, Loving, Memorable and Magical

As I write this blog entry, it’s snowing outside my studio in Fremont. There is something about the snow…. how it covers up the everyday, the mundane, and highlights certain moments and makes them even more beautiful. I think about how magical the snow can feel. As an artist, I find the snow inspiring. This was how I felt when working with Ashley and John. In Seattle, winter can be very wet, so we decided to drive up to the mountains and take advantage of all that winter moisture in the form of snow. We had such an amazing time capturing these images, and I hope you truly enjoy looking at them!

STEPHANIE & ARIC | WEDDING | THE RAINIER CLUB & BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH | SEATTLE, WA

Adjectives: Festive, Fun, Open, Loving, Dramatic, Classic, Colorful, and Classy.

As 2011 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of my wonderful clients who have made this year so wonderful!  As I post my last wedding of the year, I reflect on what it is to be a witness to one of the most important days of my client’s lives.  To be there from the nerves, to the tears, to the loving embrace of their partner.  I wish you all a very joyous Holiday Season and a Happy 2012!

Stephanie and Aric had originally planned to get married in Hawaii, but as life does, plans changed and they adapted.  They had two months to plan their wedding, and created an amazing event.  With a little help from Erica Hoffman of Two Birds Events the venue was booked, The Rainier Club, the church was chosen, Blessed Sacrament, the photographer was booked (oh yeah that’s me) and they were off!

The day started with everyone getting ready at the Rainier Club.  It was filled with so many beautiful holiday details, giving us tons of inspiration. On our way to the church we stopped by Pike’s Place Market to capture a few images and then we were off to Blessed Sacrament.  Before the ceremony we had a few minutes to shoot some long exposures with sparklers and I “Love” how they turned out!  The reception followed at the Rainier Club.  Take a look Stephanie and Aric’s wonderful Holiday Wedding below!

P.S. Special thanks to Kate Ford for 2nd shooting and my good friend, the Canon 35 mm 1.4, who was on one of my two camera bodies for the entire wedding!

FRANCESCA & JOHN | WEDDING | THE FOUR SEASONS HOTEL | SEATTLE, WA

Classic, elegant, warm, dramatic, open, loving, simple, and amazing.

The Decisive Moment: Any art photography student can describe for you Cartier Bresson’s “decisive moment”.  During one of the first conversations Francesca and I had, we discussed Bresson and how the concepts constantly play into wedding photography, such as capturing emotion, drama, and life one frame at a time.  Fast forward six months to 11/11/11,  Francesca’s Wedding Day.  During our scheduled portrait time on a stormy Seattle day,  the clouds abruptly parted and our “decisive moment” occurred.   Suddenly, the dark stormy weather paused, the rain stopped , the wind slowed, and golden light poured in from the West.  Our clients were ready,  the cameras were filled with memory cards, and in front of us was a perfect location with amazing light.  Many other moments and emotions filled the gorgeous ceremony and reception.  But those twenty minutes of perfect light, loving clients, and spectacular location were my “decisive moments” for  this wedding.  Take a look at my favorite shots and let me know your thoughts!  Congratulations Francesca and John!

SHELBY & DAVID | WEDDING | NOVELTY HILL JANUIK WINERY | WOODINVILLE, WA

Adjectives: Modern, Loving, Romantic, Playful, Open, Dramatic, Real, and Sexy.

Shelby and David are such an incredible couple.  They are incredibly kind, humble, honest, fun people.  Shelby & David chose Novelty Hill Januik Winery for their wedding celebration.  The winery boasts modern architecture, with clean and dramatic angles and lighting.  It was a fabulous location to shoot,  and I continuously found new inspirations around every corner.  The morning started with Shelby getting ready at Willows Lodge, while the guys got ready at David’s office.  There were so many beautiful details from Shelby & David’s wedding that it was difficult to choose pictures for the blog.  We captured some emotional images of their first sight of each other with a little help from David’s son, Chase.  He has become increasingly interested in shooting ever since I photographed their engagement session this spring. Watch out fellow photographers, by the time Chase can obtain a work permit, he’ll be shooting some amazing images!  After Willows Lodge, we hopped in a limo and went to Shelby’s parents home on Lake Washington to capture a few additional portraits, then we were off the Januik Winery for the Ceremony and Reception.  Take a look at my favorites and their slideshow below.  Congratulations Shelby & David!

When I first met Sara and Niall, we had an immediate connection.  They are both down to earth individuals that share a profound love and respect for each other.  The morning started with Sara getting ready at Source Salon in Ballard.  Niall and his family (most of whom had flow in from Ireland) got ready at private residence in Ballard.  We captured images all around Ballard before heading to The Canal for the ceremony and reception.  Sara and Niall’s wedding was such a lovely affair. ROBIN & RYAN | ENGAGEMENT | GOLDEN GARDENS & BALLARD | SEATTLE, WA

Adjectives: Playful, Loving, Open, Dramatic, Funny, and Real.

I had a great time working with Robin and Ryan.  The day of their engagement session was the first time we had ever met in person, and after about 10 minutes they felt like old friends.  I’m super excited for their wedding at the University of Washington next summer.  The session started at Golden Gardens before we headed to downtown Ballard to capture a few more images and have a glass of wine.  For me engagement sessions are not just about getting some great images, they are a way for my clients to get more comfortable in front of the camera and to know what to expect the day of the wedding.  Check out my favorites and their slideshow below!
